Roof Repair
A dry ridge system is a mortar-free method for securing ridge and hip tiles along the peak of a roof using mechanical fixings, screws, clamps, and a ventilated roll membrane instead of traditional sand and cement mortar. Key Components • Ridge Roll Membrane: A central roll-out material (often featuring a hydrophobic, breathable, and self-adhesive strip) that seals the gap and prevents rain ingress while allowing moisture to escape. • Batten Brackets and Ridge Battens: Metal brackets that attach to the rafters or truss tops to anchor the main ridge batten at the proper height. • Ridge Unions and Clamps: Mechanical connectors that lock adjacent ridge tiles together and secure them tightly to the batten using stainless steel screws. • Ventilation Strip: Provides continuous airflow (typically 5mm continuous ventilation) along the apex to control condensation in the roof space. Main Benefits • Weather Resistance: Mechanical fixing resists extreme wind uplift and heavy rain much better than aging mortar, which can crack and loosen over time. • Low Maintenance: Eliminates the need for costly and dangerous mortar repointing. • All-Weather Installation: Unlike mortar, dry fix systems can be safely installed in cold or damp conditions. • Standards Compliance: Modern kits conform to British Standards such as BS 5534 and BS 8612, as well as National House Building Council (NHBC) guidelines.
